Faces

A fog settles over my mind,
Velvet opiate seeping through cracks in glass walls meant
To ward off the numbness, but instead welcome it.
Shifting, swirling, dizzying blackness enveloping the last vestiges of light,
Fireflies snuffed out by grasping hands as the walls reach their breaking point,
Icy behemoths, their titanic collapse unheard, unfelt, unnoticed;
Like the dying breath of a God released as a whisper that ends
As quickly as it begins.
